Omega - Lifespan

Omega 3 and life expectancy

Be surprised: since my website gets much more attention internationally than in Tyrol, you will find my first page here, which is also written in english. Be happy: there will be more.

For more than 20 years, I have had fatty acid analyses carried out and have found impressive deficiencies in at least 90 percent of those examined. Very recent studies have dispelled the myth that a "normal" diet is sufficient and perfect anyway and deficiency states would not exist. There are better jokes. Whoever claims that our average civilization diet is a deficiency-free diet, unmasks his complete ignorance or lives according to the motto <It cannot be what must not be>.

Now in June 2021 a clear correlation between the content of essential omega 3 fatty acids in red blood cells and life expectancy was published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Over 11 years, 28 fatty acids including the omega 3 index were measured in 2240 patients.

This omega 3 index, as only one of the monitored values, is 5% in the USA and 8% in Japan. The difference in life expectancy between the two countries is about 5 years. The effectiveness of omega 3 fatty acids is so strong that high omega 3 blood levels together with avoiding smoking can give a 5 years longer life.

Here are a few comments. Since people want everything, but especially a long and healthy life, but at the same time refuse to inform themselves, the only question you usually hear after a lab test is: "How high is my cholesterol?" Brainwashing works, unfortunately.

However, there are other truly vital lab values besides cholesterol. And people with elevated cholesterol are seriously advised to have their total fatty acid levels determined. What is special about these truly evidence-based studies is that they do not refer to patients' statements about their dietary habits or what supplements they have taken, but only to the hard facts, namely the laboratory values of the omega 3 fatty acids examined!

I can recommend only to each reader to learn to think independently. That concerns also the partly massively advertised Omega 3 preparations of multi-level marketing enterprises. It depends with the Omega 3 fatty acids on completely certain, which a cheaper cod liver extract unfortunately does not contain. Thus then in addition, the desired and hoped for effect is void.

Also fatty acid analyses reduced to the Omega 3 index do not bring what they promise. For serious analyses, firstly the laboratory should be known and the analysis should include at least 25 different fatty acids.
